Using the Mosque’s Fan
Question
(1) The imam of our mosque makes the intention of iʿtikaf at ten o’clock at night, sleeps in the mosque and uses the mosque’s fans, and at two o’clock at night the imam ends the iʿtikaf. Is it permissible to run the fans or not? (2) Some fasting people use the mosque’s fan and sleep in the mosque. Fasting is in itself an act of worship and is fard; so is it permissible or impermissible for these people to use the fan? (3) Is it permissible or impermissible to revise the Qur’an with the mosque’s fan running?
Answer
(1) If the person who gave the fan to the mosque gave it for the five daily prayers, then the fan should not be used at other times; the imam and other people are all equal in this. (2) The answer to this, too, is clear from No. 1. (3) The same applies to this. Note (tanbih)
