Building a Chamber and Istinja Place for the Imam from Mosque Income

Question

What about building a chamber for the imam, or an istinja place, with money from the mosque’s shop? And is building a chamber for the imam an obligation upon the mutawalli (trustee) of the mosque? And if it is not built, and the imam stays in the mosque from Zuhr to ʿIsha and wind and the like is passed in it, what then? For wind is not in one’s control; and what should a person do who is afflicted by it a great deal? What is the ruling on passing wind in the mosque?

Answer

Building a chamber for the imam and an istinja place from the rent of the mosque’s shops is permissible; building them with the waqf’s money is also permissible. If there is no chamber and the imam takes up residence in the mosque day and night, the sanctity of the mosque does not remain.
