Building a Toilet and Bathing Room with Mosque Money; Attending a Celebration with Frivolity and Amusement
Question
Is it permissible or not to build a toilet for the imam of the mosque with the mosque’s money? And how is it to spend on arranging water for the worshippers? And if at a wedding and the like some women of the neighbourhood gather and sing songs, what is the ruling on attending such a wedding, i.e. eating and so on? What is the ruling especially for scholars (ʿulama)? May we invite our relatives at a wedding and the like or not? And how is it to give the mosque’s land on lease?
Answer
Just as a bathing room and a place for ablution (wudu) are built with the mosque’s money, likewise, if there is a need to build a toilet for the muezzin and the imam, that too is correct. Arranging water for wudu, istinja (washing after relieving oneself) and ghusl with the mosque’s money is also correct.
