Building a Toilet and Bathroom with Mosque Money

Question

Is it permissible or not to build a toilet for the imam of the mosque with the mosque’s money? And what about spending on arranging water for those who pray? And if at a wedding and the like several women of the neighbourhood gather and sing songs, what about attending such a wedding? That is, what is the ruling on the food and so on, especially for the ʿulama? May we invite our relatives to a meal and the like at a wedding and so on, or not? And what about giving the mosque’s land on lease?

Answer

Just as a bathroom and a place for wudu are built with the mosque’s money, likewise, if there is a need to build a toilet for the muezzin and the imam, that too is permissible. Arranging water for wudu, istinja and ghusl with the mosque’s money is also permissible. Singing and playing musical instruments are not permissible.
