Giving a Shrine’s Money to a Mosque and a Madrasa
Question
The respected Sayyid Abu’l-Qasim Khurasani, who came from Khurasan, was a perfect saint (wali) of the Naqshbandi tariqa… For seventy-five years people have been visiting his blessed shrine. His son, daughter, daughter’s sons and others have, as a family tradition, been serving this shrine, sweeping it and so on, for seventy-five years. Visitors also donate money.
Answer
The money that visitors give to the shrine’s attendant in connection with the service and with the one buried in the shrine belongs to the shrine’s attendants; no one has the right to take it by force for the madrasa. In the blessed hadith it says: [ar]لا يحل مال امرئ مسلم إلا بطيب نفس منه[/ar] “The wealth of a Muslim man is not lawful except with his willing consent.”
