Qawwali and Giving Its Income to a Mosque
Question
My means of livelihood is the art of qawwali (singing devotional songs with music), and by the grace and generosity of God the income is very good. Is it permissible or not for me to give financial help from this income to mosques and the like, and, by arranging a collective recitation of the Quran, to those who recite the Noble Quran? Some people say that this money is impermissible for the mosque and that no reward will be gained from it.
Answer
This profession is prohibited by the Shariʿa, and its income is also prohibited. Such income should not be put into the House of Allah. Therefore, if you wish to help the mosque, take money from permissible income from someone as a loan, give it to the mosque, and say: “I am giving this having taken it as a loan,” so that no one is left in doubt.
