Serving the Religion with Unlawful Wealth
Question
Some people’s earnings come from a cinema, or from speculative betting, or from gambling, or from alcohol, and they wish to give to a religious madrasa or a mosque. What method should they adopt? Some people of knowledge say that they should take money from someone as a loan, give it to the religious madrasa or for the construction of the mosque, and repay that loan with the amount from these earnings of theirs. Is this method permissible?
Answer
If those who have money from impermissible earnings take permissible money from someone as a loan and give it for a madrasa or a mosque, this is valid. If they give the impermissible money, it should not be accepted for the construction of the madrasa or the mosque.
