Teaching Children in a Mosque

Question

(1) May the mosque and the roof of the mosque be used as a madrasa in which small local boys and girls receive instruction in basic religion, in “Yassarna al-Qur’an” (a primer for reading the Qur’an), in reading the Qur’an from the text, the Noble Qur’an and so on? Is this manner of teaching in the mosque correct or not?

Answer

(1) Respect for the mosque is necessary. If most of the boys and girls are so young that they do not distinguish impurity, or make noise and commotion, or the teacher destroys the respect of the mosque by beating, then in such a situation there is no permission to teach them there; it is precisely this situation that appears from the question.
