Mixed Education, Secular Teaching in a Mosque, and Teaching in a Mosque in Non-Sharʿi Dress
Question
In a madrasa set up in a mosque, girls of 12/14 years are admitted. There is no separate arrangement for the girls to relieve themselves; rather, they too go to the common latrine and urinal of the same madrasa. A man stands outside; when she comes out, a man goes in, and ordinary people too. Furthermore, a teacher (“master”) comes to this mosque’s madrasa to teach the children English and the like, and he is dressed in coat and trousers, that is, Western dress.
Answer
In the situation described, it is not permissible for these girls to receive education in such an institution where there is intermingling of men with women, because in it there is a strong fear of fitna (temptation) occurring.
