Teaching Children in a Mosque
Question
Teaching children in the mosque in this way: the children have another place for study, and they do in fact study there regularly; yet, despite this, merely in order to let that place out on rent, the children’s teaching is arranged in the mosque, and then, when the tenants leave, the children will be sent back to the same place; and the excuse given is that the society is in debt, which is why this is being done. This teaching of the children is with remuneration, and nothing is taken from the children.
Answer
If there is no other place, then it is correct for a salaried teacher to give religious instruction even in the mosque, provided the children are sensible, distinguish between purity and impurity, and respect the mosque. If a suitable other place exists, then it is fitting to teach in the other place.
