Selling the Leftover Building Materials of a Mosque
Question
The timbers and other building materials (?) of a certain mosque are of no use for its purposes, that is, they are surplus to need. May someone buy these things and put them to use for his own purposes or not?
Answer
With the counsel of the people of the neighbourhood, selling these surplus items is permissible, and it is also permissible for the buyer to put them to use for his own purposes; the price should be spent on the interests (masalih) of the mosque.
