Repeatedly Auctioning Items Given to a Mosque
Question
People give a rooster, eggs, cloth and the like to the mosque in the name of God, and then it is auctioned — is this permissible or not? Moreover, after taking the item at the auction, they give it to the mosque again, and this is done over and over.
Answer
This manner of auction is not for the sake of making the item one’s own property; rather, the purpose of buying at this auction is to help the mosque. If ostentation (seeking name and fame) is not intended in it, it is permissible.
