Can the condition on which talaq is suspended be withdrawn?
Question
This humble one (I), because of a quarrel, had said to my wife: “If you go to the house of your maternal uncle Ibrahim and appear before your uncle, you will be divorced (talaq).” After that, about a month later, one morning she cheerfully began to say: “Today I will go to the house of Abida,” who is a sister to her by kinship. I replied: “Do go, by all means, but take my mother with you; do not go alone.
Answer
If your wife went to the house of her maternal uncle Ibrahim and appeared before her uncle, then according to your condition talaq has taken effect on the wife. Once talaq has been suspended on a condition, there remains no right to withdraw the condition.
