Three talaqs are not one but three

Question

Question: A man had, out of necessity at night, that is, because of his wife’s illness, been intimate with her; in the morning the wife said some harsh words, and, flying into a rage, in extreme frenzy, the husband without intention blurted out: “I gave talaq, gave three talaqs, gave talaq” (میں نے طلاق دی تین طلاق دی طلاق دی), and afterwards he said: “I did not give it.” As soon as his anger subsided, he looked at Surat al-Talaq in the Qur’an and also took her back (ruju‘)

Answer

To say that it is written in the Noble Qur’an that talaq is given three times, making two witnesses each time, in three periods of purity, and that if one said it three times at once it will count as one talaq — if this is out of ignorance and poor understanding, it is the utmost audacity.
