I'tikaf in an abandoned mosque and in an Eidgah

Question

A man performed i'tikaf in an abandoned mosque or in an Eidgah (the open ground for the Eid prayer), and no one sat in the mosque. What is the ruling?

Answer

I'tikaf is performed in a mosque where the adhan and the five daily congregational prayers are maintained. If he performed i'tikaf even in the abandoned mosque, it will be valid; in the Eidgah, however, it is not sufficient.
