A bed for the mu'takif in the mosque

Question

May a mu'takif set up a rope bed in the mosque or not? And may he lie on the bed or not? And may women who perform i'tikaf in houses set up a bed at the place of their i'tikaf or not? And may she come and go in the rest of the house for a need or not?

Answer

The mu'takif may set up a bed at the place of his i'tikaf and may lie on it; however, nowadays, by custom ('urf), setting up a bed in the mosque is regarded as contrary to respect, so caution is called for. For a woman at the place of her i'tikaf there is no such difficulty.
