Fulfilling the Sunna of I'tikaf Through a Person From Another Neighbourhood

Question

If a man from one neighbourhood performs the i'tikaf of the last ten days of Ramadan in the mosque of another neighbourhood, will the sunna i'tikaf be discharged on behalf of the people of that mosque's neighbourhood by his i'tikaf, or is it necessary that someone from among the people of that mosque's neighbourhood itself become the mu'takif?

Answer

In whichever neighbourhood's mosque he performs i'tikaf, the sunna of i'tikaf pertaining to that mosque will be discharged. However, the people of the neighbourhood should perform i'tikaf themselves, and not remain deprived themselves by calling someone from another neighbourhood and having him perform i'tikaf.
