Du‘a’ After Every Prayer

Question

The supplications that are made after the five daily prayers — is this collective du‘a’ a sunna of the Prophet ﷺ? Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ make du‘a’ after every prayer or not?

Answer

In the books of fiqh — Maraqi al-Falah, al-Durr al-Mukhtar and others — encouragement of and support for collective du‘a’ are mentioned. After a fard prayer that is followed by sunnas, one should recite brief words of supplication and then occupy oneself with the sunnas; and for a fard prayer after which there are no sunnas (Fajr, ‘Asr)
