How Long One Must Remain in Dhikr after Fajr and after ‘Asr to Obtain the Special Reward
Question
In the hadith great merit is reported for engaging in dhikr for a little while after the morning prayer and the ‘Asr prayer. Is the whole time after the Fajr and ‘Asr prayers meant by this “little while”, or less than that? And if less is meant, then for how long at the least must one engage in dhikr to obtain the merit?
Answer
There is great merit in remaining engaged in dhikr after Fajr until ishraq and after ‘Asr until sunset. If one cannot find all this time, then at the very least one should content oneself with the amount of the tasbihat of Fatima, that is: [ar]سُبْحَانَ اللهِ (٣٣)، الْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ (٣٣)، اللهُ أَكْبَرُ (٣٤)
