How Far Does the Supplication “Allahumma Anta al-Salam” at the End of the Prayer Extend?
Question
In small books on prayer, the supplication to be recited after the obligatory prayers is: [ar]اللهم أنت السلام، ومنك السلام، وإليك يرجع السلام، حينا ربنا بالسلام، وأدخلنا دار السلام، تباركت وتعاليت يا ذا الجلال والإكرام[/ar] “O Allah, You are Peace, and from You is peace, and to You peace returns; grant us life, our Lord, in peace, and admit us into the Abode of Peace; Blessed and Exalted are You, O Possessor of Majesty and Honour.” Worshippers recite it considering it to be sunna.
Answer
Reciting words that are not in the hadith in such a way that people think they too are words of the hadith is a cause of misconception; therefore one should avoid it. What the scholar said is correct. Where there is no misconception, however, there is no harm in it.
