The Ruling on Speeches, Na‘t and Mawlid in the Mosque after the Fajr and ‘Asr Prayers

Question

After the congregation, particularly after the morning and ‘Asr prayers, is it permissible or not to give a speech or to hold teaching from a book inside the mosque? And how is reciting mawlud, qasidas and the like aloud in the courtyard of the mosque regarded?

Answer

A religious speech and teaching from a book are correct and beneficial. A sound qasida containing praise of Allah (hamd) and praise of the Prophet ﷺ (na‘t) may also be recited — that too is correct. The customary mawlud, however, is not correct.
