Passing through one’s homeland during a journey; the travel distance ceasing to exist because the town has grown
Question
(1) The village of Firozpur lies adjoining the Delhi–Alwar road. Formerly the land between the settlement and the road was cultivated, but now houses have been built right up to the road and cultivation has ended, while on the other side of the road there is a graveyard and a place for keeping cattle. In such a case, if a resident of this settlement passes from Delhi to Alwar or from Alwar to Delhi, will his state of travel end or not? (2)
Answer
(1) That road is now no longer outside the settlement. Whoever comes out from Firozpur onto that road with the intention of travelling will not shorten; and when such a person, having made a journey in the sense of the Sacred Law, reaches that road [of the settlement] which is his homeland (watan), he will not shorten but will pray in full (itmam)
