Shortening the prayer for a railway employee
Question
A person named Zayd is a railway employee. Sometimes in the morning he covers a distance of sixty miles and in the evening the same, that is, in the morning, on account of his employment, he travels by train sixty miles from his place of residence, and in the evening, covering the same distance, he returns to his place of residence. Zayd prays the shortened prayer (qasr) on the way, but at his place of residence, that is, his watan al-iqama, he prays in full.
Answer
As long as Zayd does not make the intention of staying at least fifteen days in his watan al-iqama, in the case asked about he should keep praying the shortened prayer (qasr). Since Zayd is an employee, his intention will count only when he also legally has the right to stay fifteen days; otherwise the intention of his officer will count.
