Is the father’s house also an original homeland (watan asli)?
Question
Fifteen years ago a scholar (‘alim) went from India to Africa for employment together with his wife and children and became a resident there, but his parents remained in India. For several years now he has been teaching and leading the prayer as imam in one place. One of his sons, a hafiz of the Qur’an, went to work two hundred miles away; during holidays he comes home. Now he has married and taken his wife with him. During the holidays he came home and, in a four-rak‘a prayer, led the full four rak‘as as imam.
Answer
If his father has made that place his original homeland (watan asli) for ever, and the son is subordinate to (a dependant of) his father, then that place has become an original homeland (watan asli) for the son as well: whenever the son comes there, for whatever length of time, he will pray the full prayer.
