Ruku‘ in Place of Sajda al-Tilawa
Question
If someone recites “Read in the name of your Lord who created” (ٱقْرَأْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ — Surah al-ʿAlaq, 96:1) in a fard prayer, i.e. in an audible (jahri) prayer such as ʿIsha’, or in a silent (sirri) prayer such as Zuhr, and that person does not perform sajda al-tilawa at the end of this sura, will that prostration be performed by the prostration of the prayer? Or will it be wajib to perform sajda al-tilawa within the prayer? And will the one who omits the prostration be deemed sinful?
Answer
If at the end of this sura he did not prostrate but performed ruku‘, and in this ruku‘ made the niyya of sajda al-tilawa, then by it the sajda al-tilawa has been performed; and if he made no niyya, this sajda al-tilawa will be performed by the prostration of the prayer without any niyya.
