Making up and expiating missed prayers with a single nafl prayer

Question

Zayd writes in his book that the kaffara prayer for the prayers missed over a lifetime is to be performed thus: after the Jumu‘a prayer one prays four rak‘as; in each rak‘a, after Surat al-Fatiha, [one recites] Ayat al-Kursi once and Surat al-Kawthar fifteen times, and after the salam of the prayer one recites istighfar and salawat ten times each; [then] it will become an expiation for the missed prayers. Is this statement of Zayd established from the books of hadith and other blessed books or not?

Answer

This kaffara has no basis whatsoever in the Shari‘a, nor are the missed prayers expiated by it. Performing these prayers oneself during one’s lifetime is fard; without that one will not be free of the obligation.
