A qada’ prayer performed with the niyya of ada’

Question

A person performed the Zuhr prayer so late that the adhan of ‘Asr was called while he was in the prayer. He completed his prayer, but he had begun it with the niyya of ada’. Should he perform it again with the niyya of qada’?

Answer

This prayer is valid: [ar]ونوى الأداء على ظن بقاء الوقت فتبين خروجه أجزأه[/ar] “[If] he intended ada’ thinking that the time still remained, and then it became clear that it had gone out, [the prayer] suffices him” (“Shami”, vol. 1, p. 283).
