An error made in reciting Surah al-Jumu‘a
Question
The imam, while in prayer, recited the last ruku‘ of Surah al-Jumu‘a. Instead of “وَإِذَا رَأَوْا۟ تِجَـٰرَةً أَوْ لَهْوًا ٱنفَضُّوٓا۟” (Surah al-Jumu‘a, 62:11), he had only managed to say “انفض” when he ran out of breath and could not complete “انفضوا”; then, when he [re]started the recitation, he recited “فضوا” instead of “انفضوا”. Was the prayer valid in this case? If not, how is it to be made up? Likewise, [another time] he did not complete “التكاثر”, but, saying “الهكم التكاثر” (Surah al-Takathur, 102:1)
Answer
One should not recite in this way; nevertheless the prayer was valid, and repeating it (i‘ada) is not wajib.
