What is meant by a gross error?
Question
The imam recited Surah al-Infitar: “ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَكَ فَسَوَّىٰكَ فَعَدَلَكَ فِىٓ أَىِّ صُورَةٍ مَّا شَآءَ رَكَّبَكَ” (Surah al-Infitar, 82:7–8), after which [he recited] “كَلَّا بَلَّا”. Then the imam immediately realised and, without correcting that word, after about three seconds recited “بل تكذبون بالدين” and went into ruku‘. The question is: is this verse counted as part of the recitation (tilawa) or not? If it is, was the prayer valid or not? Kindly favour us with an answer with references.
Answer
If, having recited “فِىٓ أَىِّ صُورَةٍ مَّا شَآءَ رَكَّبَكَ كَلَّا بَلْ” — that is, having mistakenly recited the extra word “بَلَّا” — he became aware of the error and, without correcting that word, after about three seconds recited “بل تكذبون بالدين” and completed the prayer, then the prayer did not become fasid by this. Invalidity (fasad)
