The Prayer When One Verse Is Omitted

Question

An imam, in the fard prayer of Friday, began the recitation from the ruku‘ of the sura “‘Amma yatasa’alun”, that is, from “إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ مَفَازًا” (Surah al-Naba’, 78:31), and, having finished the sura, completed the rak‘a; but by forgetfulness, in the middle of the recitation, “لَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِنْهُ” (78:37) was left out. Did any defect arise in such a case or not?

Answer

Through the omission of this “لَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِنْهُ” the meaning was not distorted in such a way that the prayer would become fasid; rather, an interpretation (ta’wil) is possible, which is sufficient to save the prayer from invalidity.
