Skipping a short sura in between
Question
The imam, in the first rak‘a of Maghrib, recited “Alam tara” (Surah al-Fil, 105), and in the second, skipping “Li-ilafi” (Surah Quraysh, 106), recited “A-ra’ayta alladhi” (Surah al-Ma‘un, 107). Is the prayer performed in this way valid or not? Some say it is valid, others say it is not.
Answer
Reciting “Alam tara kayfa” in the first rak‘a of Maghrib and then, in the second rak‘a, skipping “Li-ilafi” and reciting “A-ra’ayta alladhi” is makruh tanzihi. The prayer is valid.
