Reciting out of order in the prayer
Question
If in the prayer the Noble Qur’an is recited out of order by mistake, does sajda al-sahw become wajib? For example, in the first rak‘a one recited “Alam tara kayfa” (Surah al-Fil, 105) and in the second rak‘a “Waylun li-kulli” (Surah al-Humaza, 104), so the order was missed. Is the order wajib?
Answer
The order of recitation is wajib, but it is not among the wajib acts of the prayer, such that omitting it inadvertently would make sajda al-sahw wajib; rather, it is among the wajib acts of recitation (tilawa). Sajda al-sahw will not be wajib. In “al-Tahtawi” this ruling is stated just so.
