A masbuq giving the salam together with the imam

Question

A masbuq forgetfully gave the salam together with the imam. Later he remembered, stood up and completed the prayer. Is sajda al-sahw binding on such a person or not, and was his standing up correct or not? Zayd says that if after the salam, without speaking, he also recited something such as salawat, there is still no harm in that: if, on remembering, he stands up and completes [the prayer], [the prayer] will be valid. Is Zayd’s statement correct or not?

Answer

As long as he has not committed any word or act contrary to the prayer, he should stand up, complete his prayer and perform sajda al-sahw; the prayer will be valid. Endorsement of the answer The answer is correct: Sa‘id Ahmad, may Allah forgive him. Correct: ‘Abd al-Latif, 26 Rajab 56 AH.
