If a masbuq forgetfully gives the salam to one side
Question
A masbuq forgetfully gave the salam to one side together with the imam, and before giving the salam to the other side he remembered that he had missed a rak‘a. Is sajda al-sahw now binding on him or not?
Answer
When the imam gave the salam to the right and reached the “mim” of the word “al-salam” in it — if at that very moment the masbuq remembered and stopped, then there is no sajda al-sahw on him; if he gave the salam after that and then remembered, sajda al-sahw will be due from him (Shami, vol. 1, p. 499).
