The adhan with musical intonation (tarannum)
Question
Nowadays the young men here have become so keen on calling the adhan that not even a single [prayer’s] adhan falls to the share of the regular mu’adhdhin. But at the end of every word of the adhan, that is, of every phrase of the adhan, these young men [draw out] “a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a”, and put a musical intonation with rises and falls into these words to such an extent that they stretch each phrase to three or four times its length and trouble the listeners; by the clock [the adhan] exceeds six to seven minutes.
Answer
Calling the adhan with a musical intonation that causes excessive stretching and distortion of the original letters is prohibited; it is contrary to the sunna. Responding to such an adhan is also not required.
