Adhan and Iqama for Praying at Home
Question
Zayd lives in a quarter of a settlement; there is no mosque in this quarter, and the next quarter is so far away that the sound of the adhan sometimes reaches and sometimes does not. If this person prays alone at home, are the adhan and iqama necessary or not?
Answer
[ar]وَكُرِهَ تَرْكُهُمَا لِلْمُسَافِرِ، لَا لِمُصَلٍّ فِي بَيْتِهِ فِي الْمِصْرِ، وَنُدِبَا لَهُمَا. اهـ[/ar] “Omitting both of them [the adhan and the iqama] is makruh for the traveller, but not for one praying in his house in the city; and both are recommended (mandub) for both of them” (Kanz al-Daqa’iq on the margin of al-Bahr al-Ra’iq, vol. 1, p. 265).
