The Adhan on the Mosque Veranda

Question

What is [the ruling on] giving the adhan on the veranda of the mosque — is it permissible or not, given that there is no shortfall in how far the voice reaches?

Answer

The adhan should be given in a loud voice from an elevated place, so that the voice reaches as far as possible, for as far as the voice goes, all the stones and clods of earth up to that point will bear witness [for the mu'adhdhin]. The purpose of the adhan is to inform those who are absent.
