The Adhan Inside the Mosque

Question

Is it correct to give the adhan for prayer outside the mosque, or may one give it standing in some part of the mosque? For example, what about giving it on the roof of the mosque, or in the outer covered gallery that is part of the mosque?

Answer

The adhan for the five [daily] prayers should be given standing on an elevated place (a minaret, a roof and the like) from where the voice can reach far. If the adhan is given in a place from which the voice does not travel far, the purpose of the adhan is not fully achieved.
