A detailed discussion of dar al-harb and the ruling on the lawfulness of interest
Question
Question: A certain person regards interest as lawful (halal) and encourages people towards it. So is taking interest permissible? In its permissibility, has any personal or locational particularity been taken into account or not? What is the status of this business (transaction)? Is this, absolutely and in every respect, dar al-harb? If it is, then why; and if not, then what is the ruling on the mustahill of interest (one who deems interest lawful)?
Answer
The prohibition of interest is established by a categorical text (nass qat‘i): [ar]أَحَلَّ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْبَيْعَ وَحَرَّمَ ٱلرِّبَوٰا۟[/ar] “Allah has made trade lawful and forbidden riba” (Surah al-Baqara, 2:275). (1)
