Which Wording of the Hadith “Lawlaka” Is Correct — “Aflak” or “Dunya”?
Question
[ar]لَوْلَاكَ لَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْأَفْلَاكَ[/ar] “Were it not for you, I would not have created the spheres” — and [ar]لَوْلَاكَ لَمَا خَلَقْتُ الدُّنْيَا[/ar] “Were it not for you, I would not have created this world” — which of these two wordings is correct? Are they mentioned in any book of the noble hadith? Please indicate the chapter and page.
Answer
“Lawlaka lama khalaqtu al-aflak” was declared fabricated (mawdu‘) by Mawlana Thanawi in “Imdad al-Fatawa” (p. 90) and by Mawlana Shah ‘Abd al-‘Aziz, Muhaddith Dehlawi, in “Fatawa ‘Azizi”. ‘Allama Shawkani in “al-Fawa’id al-Majmu‘a fi al-Ahadith al-Mawdu‘a” (p. 108) likewise declared it fabricated.
