Reconciling “The First Thing Was My Light” and “The First Thing Was the Pen”
Question
(1) [ar]أَوَّلُ مَا خَلَقَ اللَّهُ نُورِي[/ar] “The first thing Allah created was my light” — and [ar]أَوَّلُ مَا خَلَقَ اللَّهُ الْقَلَمَ[/ar] “The first thing Allah created was the Pen” (or however else it may be transmitted) — these two hadiths contradict each other. Which of them is correct and which is not? If both are correct, how are they to be reconciled? (2)
Answer
(1) Neither of these [hadiths] reaches the degree of soundness (sahih), as has been explicitly stated [by scholars]. (2) This hadith is not found in the sound books (kutub sihah).
