The Hadith “The First Thing Allah Created Was My Light”

Question

[ar]أَوَّلُ مَا خَلَقَ اللَّهُ نُورِي[/ar] “Allah Most High first created my light.” Is this a hadith or not?

Answer

In the marginal notes (hashiya) to “Majma‘ al-Bihar” this is called a hadith; in “al-Yawaqit wa’l-Jawahir” (vol. 2, p. 20) it is likewise recorded as a hadith. In “Fatawa Ibn Hajar al-Makki” (pp. 44 and 206) its content is transmitted as a hadith from ‘Abd al-Razzaq.
