Identifying a Thief’s Name Through the Qur’an

Question

What is the ruling on issuing a challenge by means of the Holy Qur’an and thereby declaring some person, with certainty, to be a criminal and a thief?

Answer

It is not permissible. [ar]لَا يُؤْخَذُ الْفَأْلُ مِنَ الْمُصْحَفِ[/ar] “Divination is not to be taken from the mushaf” (see “Sharh al-Fiqh al-Akbar”).
