Several People Reciting the Qur’an Aloud at the Same Time
Question
Zayd, ‘Amr, Bakr and Khalid gather together and recite the Noble Qur’an aloud — will this be permissible or not? From the noble verse of the Qur’an it apparently follows that it is not permissible, for Allah Most High says: [ar]إِذَا قُرِئَ الْقُرْآنُ فَاسْتَمِعُوا لَهُ وَانْصِتُوا الآية[/ar] “When the Qur’an is recited, listen to it and be silent…” (the verse, in part) (Surah al-A‘raf, 7:204) — from this verse it seems that listening is obligatory (wajib)
Answer
[ar]وفي الدرة المنيفة عن القنية يكره للقوم أن يقرؤوا القرآن جملة لتضمنه ترك الاستماع والإنصات، وقيل: لا بأس به، طحطاوي. ولا بأس باجتماعهم على قراءة الإخلاص جهرًا عند ختم القرآن، ولو قرأ واحد واستمع الباقون فهو أولى[/ar] In al-Durra al-Munifa, citing al-Qunya: it is disliked (makruh)
