Is Someone’s Regular Litany Interrupted Because of Qur’an Recitation?
Question
If someone in the mosque is reciting a wird or regular litany, is it permissible [at that time] to recite the Qur’an aloud or not?
Answer
If a person is already reciting the Qur’an aloud and someone else then comes and begins his regular litany, the one reciting should not be stopped. And if a person is already reciting his litany, the one who arrives afterward should recite the Qur’an quietly — though he should not be compelled to do so either; this is merely preferable (istihsan).
