Should the Qur’an Be Recited Aloud or Quietly at a Collective Qur’an Recitation?
Question
For the purpose of conveying reward (isal al-thawab), should the Noble Qur’an be recited in a loud voice or silently during a collective Qur’an recitation? A certain person says that the Imam of Ahl al-Sunna, Hazrat Mawlana ‘Abd al-Shakur ﵀, used to instruct reciting silently on such occasions. Please clarify the correct ruling.
Answer
The most excellent [practice] is that when a gathering recites the Noble Qur’an in one place, all should recite quietly; but even if they recite loudly, this too is permitted.
