Reciting the Qur’an Aloud in the Market and Quietly in the Mosque
Question
What is the ruling on reciting the Noble Qur’an in a loud voice in the marketplace? Some huffaz, while walking about the mosque, recite the Noble Qur’an in a quiet voice — what is the ruling on this practice of theirs?
Answer
Walking about the mosque while reciting quietly is correct and earns reward. Reciting aloud in the marketplace (a place of idle talk), where people are occupied each with his own affairs and no one is listening to the recitation, is not correct — it is forbidden.
