Marrying the Daughter of a Woman of Ill Repute

Question

(1) There is a Muslim woman of ill repute; she has two daughters named Umr-un-Nisa and Mehr-un-Nisa. What is the standing of these girls in Islam from the viewpoint of the Sacred Law? May one contract nikah with them? For I have a friend who wishes to marry her daughter. In my opinion, living on what is haram is not permissible in Islam and a haram thing cannot be accepted; therefore one cannot marry this girl, because she was brought up on the haram and haram blood runs in her veins.

Answer

(1) A girl who is a Muslim — whether a Muslim by birth or by embracing Islam — whether or not her mother had a nikah, in every case her nikah with a Muslim is valid. If the father or the mother committed unbelief (kufr) or did something haram, the girl’s nikah will not on that account be called impermissible and haram. (2)
