One Eidgah for Two Villages

Question

Two villages lie very close to each other, with no distance at all between them; between the two there is one Eidgah (open ground for the Eid prayer). Jumu‘a is held in both, but the Eid prayer is performed in one place only. This year, on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, a man was giving a speech, and the people of the Eidgah stopped him from speaking. The Eid prayer was led by a fasiq, and the khutba was delivered by another man who shaves his beard.

Answer

In a settlement in which the conditions of Jumu‘a are present, it is preferable and better (awla wa afdal) that Jumu‘a and Eid be held in one place only; but if, because of lack of space or other circumstances, [the prayer] is also held in a second place, there is no harm in that either.
