Where to perform the Eid prayer when it rains
Question
Very heavy rain has begun, and people are unable to go to the designated Eidgah (open ground for the Eid prayer). In such a case, can they perform the Eid prayer in their own village, in which there are two to four, or ten, twenty or thirty Muslim households, and in which there is a mosque or there is not? What is the ruling?
Answer
In such a village the Eid prayer is not valid; no sin will be incurred by not performing it — rest assured. [ar]تجب صلاتهما على من تجب عليه الجمعة[/ar] “The prayer of the two Eids is wajib for whoever the Jumu'a is obligatory upon” (al-Durr al-Mukhtar).
